Preferred Address

Rev. 05/02/19

PREFERRED ADDRESS

Overview:

Pursuant to Fed. R. Bankr. P. 5003(e), the Clerk's Office maintains two separate registries of mailing addresses of government units:  (1) a register of the preferred mailing address for government units for service generally; and (2) a register containing the preferred mailing address for government units for service of requests for tax assessments under 11 U.S.C. § 505(b).  These registries are available on the Register of Governmental Units page.

Pursuant to 11 U.S.C. § 342(e) a creditor, in a chapter 7 or 13 individual case, may at any time both file with the court and serve on the debtor a notice of address to be used to provide notice in such case to the creditor.

Pursuant to 11 U.S.C. § 342(f) an entity, in a chapter 7 or 13 individual case, may file with the bankruptcy court a notice of address to be used by all bankruptcy courts or by particular bankruptcy courts that specifies a preferred U.S. mail, email address, or fax number to which bankruptcy notices should be sent.  The Bankruptcy Noticing Center (BNC) offers this free service where creditors can specify such an address.  A creditor can register at https://bankruptcynotices.uscourts.gov/ and specify a single address where all bankruptcy notices should be sent.

Additional noticing related information is available on the Court's Noticing Information page.
